Press Release: An Open Recording Session in Manchester Central Library

23 March 2015 Events, Felix Hagan & The Family, Louis Barabbas, Open Recording Sessions

Independent label Debt Records shatters the silence of Manchester Central Library with a one-off recording session… and everyone is invited.

The beautiful Henry Watson Music Room will be converted into an informal studio space where people can watch (and contribute to) the recording of a specially commissioned song written by Louis Barabbas and Felix Hagan, arranged and performed on the day by members of the label roster plus special guests.

Attendees will see how a modern record is put together – from set-up and orchestration to tracking and post-production – all in the space of two hours. Label staff will also be on hand to answer questions for anyone interested in the music industry.

All ages are welcome: either come for the full session or just drop in (and out) whenever it suits you. The completed song will be available free to all attendees at the end of the day.

This event takes place between 17:30-19:30 on Thursday 14th May and is part of Manchester After Hours. Entry is FREE.

Louis Barabbas and Felix Hagan to Write Song for Manchester After Hours – Suggest a Theme!

21 March 2015 Felix Hagan & The Family, Louis Barabbas, Open Recording Sessions

Felix Hagan and Louis BarabbasAs part of Manchester After Hours (in which galleries, museums and public spaces stay open late for special events), we will be holding an open studio session at the Central Library, in which members of our roster will arrange and record a song written specially for the occasion by Louis Barabbas and Felix Hagan. We figured that since the recording process will be witnessed and influenced by the public, the song’s formative stages should be too.

So if you have an idea for a song theme, a title or a potential lyric, get in touch via the Contact page. Please use the subject line AFTER HOURS.

We’ll then put together a shortlist of suggestions before drawing one from the hat at random.

Manchester After Hours takes place on 14th May. For more information visit creativetourist.com.

For past sessions, check out the Open Recording Sessions section of the site.

Our next Open Recording Session is a particularly special one. We will be one of the official Manchester After Hours events as part of the UK’s Museums At Night initiative on Thursday 14th May, converting the Central Library’s beautiful Henry Watson Music room into a pop-up studio to create a specially commissioned new piece in front of a live audience. Watch this space for more information…

Introducing “Open Recording Sessions”

27 February 2015 Open Recording Sessions

Open Recording SessionsOpen Recording Sessions is a new ongoing project here at Debt Records. At Debt we like to keep things as transparent as possible, encouraging artists to talk to their audiences, keep blogs and generally work together outside of that unhelpful (and often completely fictional) “celebrity” bubble we have too long been faced with as a result of old industry thinking.

One of the things at the heart of what we do is, of course, recording. And yet this is often among the most secretive activities an artist can engage in. Well, not any more. We’ve launched the Open Recording Sessions, a series of public studio events where audiences are invited to come along and see how a band puts together a track. They can even get involved in the process if they want to.

You’ll find new sessions in the Open Recording Sessions section of the site as and when we add them.
