New Video: T. E. Yates’ Evil Cat

12 September 2015 T.E. Yates

T.E. Yates has locked himself away for a very long time. For over a year he’s been working on an animated adaptation of Edgar Allan Poe’s 1843 short horror story The Black Cat. Faithful to the original text, and synchronised to the music of the aptly named song Evil Cat from his own Possessed EP, Yates has now emerged from the shadows in order to present this creation to the world.

Song by T.E. Yates, taken from the Possessed EP
Animation also by T.E. Yates

Richard Barry and Louis Barabbas House Tour

9 September 2015 Louis Barabbas, Richard Barry

Louis and Richard at the Edinburgh Fringe 2008

Louis and Richard at the Edinburgh Fringe 2008

Buoyed by the success of his acoustic tour with Felix Hagan earlier this year, Louis Barabbas is set to revisit the homes of UK music lovers, this time with Richard Barry. The expedition will take place in October.

In the words of Louis: “There are no fees, no formality… it’s mainly a way of meeting the people who have been buying our records over the years.”

If you’d like to be involved contact Louis here.

You can read more about the tour here or a day-by-day account of the last one here.

NEW MUSIC VIDEO: “I Feel Good” by Alabaster dePlume

7 September 2015 Alabaster dePlume

“Hope grows naturally like a dandelion between the bricks…”

A somber man addresses us with his wisdom, while around him the joy of many makes him a fool.

Alabaster is telling us “I Feel Good”, backed by an orchestral score. Behind him, people with painted skin are laughing, playing, fighting, and pulling his walls down. They behave like live humans beings, while Alabaster tries to tell us how he manages to live. The actions are revealed through a single tracking back shot.

In this film, the human interactions evoke the individual will required to persevere in daily life. The lone character addressing us with his obstinate resolve to remain positive is swamped by a colourful cast whose heedless behaviour makes a mockery of him, and a ruin of his surroundings. Watching the film, we can identify with the central character surrounded by a world of chaotic and irrational events.

Script, lead role, score and audio recording – Angus Fairbairn
Director – Melodie Roulaud
DOP – Leo Naessens
GRIP – Hardy Damavand Saleh

Made using group games from Misha Gloubman / Sheila Heti and Clive Barker, and the full input of the cast. Filmed in a gallery under railway arches in Waterloo, London.
