Photos from #BedlamStream

13 November 2015 Events, Felix Hagan & The Family, Louis Barabbas, The Bedlam Six, Uncategorised

Our first live stream went out to viewers in the USA, UK, mainland Europe and Australia, receiving ecstatic feedback on social media via the #BedlamStream hashtag. The show featured a solo Felix Hagan airing songs from his upcoming EP with The Family, followed by a full electric set of new material and reimagined classics by Louis Barabbas & The Bedlam Six.
Thanks to WR Audio, NoiseBoy and The Sessions Of March for grappling with the complex technical side of the operation. Also thanks to Ozzy the studio dog for setting twitter ablaze every time he trotted into view.
Here are few photos taken by regular Debt collaborators Andrew Ab, Steve Hall and Christine Keating to give you a taste of the event.

New album from Alabaster dePlume scheduled for October release

PRESS RELEASE
Alabaster DePlume releases third album “Peach”
Impact Date: 2nd October 2015

A peach is a sweet and soft and good thing with a stone in the middle, and this is an album about being a person. Smartphones, analogue tape, valve microphones, computers, group games and a grand banquet were used to create this collection of songs, tunes and monologues, that use a series of contradictions to talk about being alive.

Long-term collaborators John Ellis (piano) and Paddy Steer (percussion, bass, lapsteel, synth) join Angus Fairbairn (vocal, tenor sax) along with eleven other musicians and nearly a hundred other voices in presenting sounds likened to Ethiopian jazz and Japanese folk music. Scripts and vocal delivery evoke Ivor Cutler, Emo Philips and Leonard Cohen, for this combination of theatre, live-captured music, songs, humour and philosophy.

It is a unique collection, made by unusual means designed around the artistry and conveyance of its many contributors. Created over three years in London and Manchester, it’ll be celebrated in those two towns on the dates below, following its vinyl and digital release on Manchester label Debt Records, on 28th September 2015.

A composer, musician and performer, Alabaster DePlume (Angus Fairbairn) has toured northern Europe, appeared on UK national radio and developed theatre for Bram Stoker Festival in Dublin. His many combined arts projects are based around music, and personal inclusion. In this, his third album, he has employed as many voices as he can, in conveying a method of survival he’s been taught, he says, by everyone he’s met.

Hope grows naturally, like a
dandelion between the bricks.
I feel good…

Manchester launch: 4th October at The Wonder Inn
London launch: 31st October at The Total Refreshment Centre, Dalston

The Library All-Stars

“Dalloway”

17 April 2015 Events, Felix Hagan & The Family, Louis Barabbas, Open Recording Sessions

Cover of "Mrs Dalloway" by Virginia WoolfWe asked our various social networks for ideas on what the song subject should be for our upcoming Open Recording Session at Manchester Central Library. All sorts of suggestions came in: from bloodthirsty textbooks to retelling the plot of Labyrinth. Then it was brought to our attention that the date of Manchester After Hours happened to also be the 90th anniversary of the publication of Virginia Woolf’s “Mrs Dalloway”. Perfect – a connection between both the day of recording and the location. What better subject for a library than a book, eh?

So Louis Barabbas has been busy re-reading the text and throwing together lyrics for Felix Hagan to bash into song-shape.

We’ve still no idea what to expect on the day! Come along and find out on Thursday 14th May!
